RENOVATION AND ADDITION

Kindred arch.works purchased this two- story 1,200 square foot townhouse and tripled the size by adding a floor to the top, enlarging the footprint of the house at the rear, and creating a family room at the basement level. Although the house is only 16 feet wide, a carefully designed central stair, and well planned mechanical systems allow the widths and heights of the rooms to be maximized. Enlarged windows at the front and room-wide windows at the additions bring light deep into the house. The addition at the front of the house is set back to respect the streetscape, while the new addition at the rear is more modern and designed using cement board of varying widths and enlivened with bright yellow banding at the windows.
